For over seven years, Indiana Marks has been a familiar and invaluable presence at Equine Pathways Australia’s Victoria clinics. Based in Ferntree Gully, Indi’s journey with EPA began right at home, at Balmoral Equestrian Centre, where she agists her horse and trains under EPA coach Julia Battams. After witnessing the clinics in action, Indi knew she wanted to be involved.
“I saw the impact the clinics had on people and felt drawn to be part of it. The environment is incredibly supportive, and it’s so rewarding to help others,” Indi explains.
A passionate rider of 12 years, Indi has trained her beloved black pony, Limo, from preliminary through to Prix St Georges. Though Limo is now retired, Indi continues to ride for several para athletes and offers consistent support across clinics, from collecting and tacking up horses, to warming them up and working alongside the coaches to ensure everything runs smoothly.
One of Indi’s proudest moments was training a horse named Henry for EPA and seeing him take rider Marnie Clapman to competition at Boneo, a partnership that made her heart swell with pride.
“The best part of volunteering is watching riders smile and reach their goals, no matter how big or small. It’s a special feeling to be part of that,” Indi reflects. “EPA feels like one big family.”
“Their passion, experience and empathy are integral to the EPA’s success and we can’t thank our volunteers enough for their generosity and time.”
